Our paper is transported by sea, road or rail and often by a combination of two or more transport modes to the final destination. A combined transport is often referred to as an intermodal transport, and could for example be a container that is shipped by boat, and then switched over to rail or road transport for the final leg of its journey.
Part of the volumes produced at our paper mills in Hallsta and Braviken are loaded onto boats in ports straight at the mill. Holmen’s vessel M/S Baltic Bright calls different terminals in the Netherlands (Terneuzen), England (Sheerness) and Germany (Lübeck). The paper is sent to terminals and warehouses in Europe, awaiting call-offs from the customer. This way we can reduce the lead times to customer, while optimizing transports from the mills.
