The new drying unit was the first step, completed in 2022. The new log sorting system has been up and running since the end of 2023 and construction of a modern planing mill is in full swing, with commissioning scheduled for autumn 2024.
The investment decision on the final part of the expansion plan is a symbol of Holmen’s great confidence in the future.
“Investing during these tough economic times that we – and the rest of the world – find ourselves in is an extremely positive move,” says Johan Padel, Senior Vice President Wood Products. “Many people believe in us and our products. Our sawmills are the hub of our circular business and wood is the future!”
The investments will enable us to increase production from the current 380 000 m³ to 460 000 m³ per year. The sawmill plant is simultaneously being adapted to handle fast-growing lodgepole pine, and to produce construction timber.
“It’s fantastic to see Holmen investing so much in Iggesund,” says mill manager Magnus Malmström. “We already have leading expertise in many areas and this investment will make us more efficient in our production and more flexible in our product choices, which all bodes well for the future,” he says.
