Holmen owns six modern production facilities in Sweden and one in the UK. Two paperboard mills, two paper mills and three sawmills. We also own, outright or or jointly with others, 21 hydro power stations. In addition, we have good opportunities to develop our land holdings with wind power establishments in areas with good wind conditions.
Iggesund Mill can be traced back centuries to its origin as an ironworks. Today it is a modern integrated paper mill that manufactures homogenous bleached paperboard from chemical pulp. Called Invercote, the product family produced here is used for graphical products and premium quality packaging. Examples of its varied applications include exclusive packaging for perfume, chocolate, wine and spirits. Combined with the nearby lamination unit in Strömsbruk, the mill offers a high degree of finishing options.
Workington Mill in the UK is the only manufacturer of folding boxboard made from bleached mechanical pulp with an outer layer of bleached chemical pulp. The Incada product family manufactured in Workington is used in packaging for confectionery, cosmetics, wine, spirits, frozen and dried foods and tobacco products, plus greetings cards and covers.
With its almost unrivalled production efficiency, Braviken Paper Mill outside Norrköping combines technology and tradition with keen environmental awareness. Over 80 per cent of all the paper produced here is exported to markets outside Sweden. Braviken Paper Mill and Braviken Sawmill create a bio co-location with environmental solutions for the future.
Hallsta Paper Mill, located in Hallstavik, is spearheading Holmen’s development into a speciality paper company and it is here that many of our speciality products are developed and produced. Paper from Hallsta Paper Mill is eco-certified and delivers significant cost efficiencies. In addition to distribution by road and rail, the mill has its own port, which enhances delivery capacity and allows for flexible delivery solutions.
All three modern sawmills have high technical standards, with a steady increase in finishing options underpinning continuous product development and a strong product range. As a result of the new wood treatment plant and distribution warehouse at Braviken Sawmill, we are able to offer a broader and more attractive range for the construction industry and for builders’ merchants.
Iggesund Sawmill is an innovative and efficient sawmill. The sawmill manufactures pine joinery timber used for interiors such as furniture, windows, doors, staircases and flooring. A horizontal saw enables us to saw pith-free products with fewer cracks and deformations, which also brings major drying benefits.
Located just outside Norrköping, Braviken Sawmill is the largest and most modern sawmill in Scandinavia. The sawmill manufactures construction and joinery timber in spruce and pine. A wood treatment plant and distribution warehouse see us offer a broad and attractive range directly to builders’ merchants and the construction industry.
Linghem Sawmill is a niche small log sawmill with an integrated planing mill. Here we produce sawn and planed wood products for joinery and construction purposes in 3-metre lengths. Production at Linghem also complements the products at Braviken Sawmill, helping to strengthen our market position particularly in Sweden and the UK.
In our business areas, we turn our forest holdings into wood products for sustainable building, cost-effective paper, premium paperboard and renewable energy.
