Replacing the previous EU Timber Regulation, EUDR extends mandatory due diligence requirements to a wider range of commodities. The regulation was decided on June 29, 2023, with an 18-month transition period to allow businesses time to adapt.
On November 14, 2024, the European Parliament voted to delay EUDR implementation by 12 months to January 1, 2026, aligning with a proposal from the European Commission. The proposal has already been approved by the European Council.
Holmen continues its work to implement processes ensuring compliance with EUDR according to our original plan:
Holmen welcomes the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) as a key initiative in addressing deforestation. With sustainable forestry and strong traceability systems, Holmen is well-prepared for compliance and continues to enhance these processes. Regardless of EUDR timelines, Holmen is committed to supply chain traceability – from our own forest to final product—by the end of 2024, reinforcing our sustainability leadership.
The final wording of the EUDR regulation has yet to be decided, as EU institutions still need to reach consensus on proposed amendments. Holmen continues to closely monitor developments.
