The EU’s draft Forest Strategy was revealed after a document was leaked in late June. Its content led to a wave of criticism from several weighty actors in the sector. Last week, the major Swedish forest owners signed a joint letter to the European Commission, which Holmen fully upholds.
The Swedish Forest Industries Federation is highly critical of the EU line, which it considers lacks insight into conditions in the forest industry and the contribution it makes to a climate-neutral society.
The leaked Forest Strategy is part of a major package of 13 revised or new pieces of legislation, eight of which directly affect the forest, to be presented in mid-July.
- An unacceptable attempt to regulate forestry, writes Holmen President and CEO Henrik Sjölund.
